  • Welcome Everyone! Ms. Romano returns for another fun season as Cross Country coach. I'm the new assistant. I know it's going to be a great year. I plan to post notices, photos, our meet schedule and anything parents would like to see. Susan McCarthy.

  • Happy New Year!!
  • Yes, some of you still have your school issued XC sweatshirts and sweatpants. They should be turned in to the office so that next year's runners can use them.
  • If you ordered a "To-Keep Sweatshirt" before Christmas, they've come in and Mrs. Barnes has them in the office. Please see her.

December 22, 2006

  • There are school-issued sweatpants and sweatshirts still out there. They should have been turned into the office by now. I'll be telephoning families this week as a reminder to return these items so that they can be used by next year's XC team.
  • Speaking of sweatshirts, those of you that ordered "to-keep" sweatshirts a couple weeks ago - they've come in and they look great. Drop me an e-mail or phone call and we'll arrange pickup. (I'm reluctant to call, because some of these sweatshirts are Xmas presents;) )

  • Thank you! Success doesn’t just happen. Many thanks to many different people – and I know I’ll forget someone! Thank you to Sue, Rhandi, Abby and Kathy. Thank you to Don and Kevin. Thank you Jane, Charlene, John and Terry. Thank you to Kathy, Ken and the Fitness and Athletic Boosters. Thanks to Sandra and Mary and the gals at the bus company. Thank you parents. Thank you kids!
  • Remember to return your sweatshirts and sweatpants. There is a box near Mrs. Barne's desk in the orffice. They will be used by next year’s runners
  • If you would like to order a sweatshirt, I must have your order form and a check/money order/cash by Friday, December 8th.
    • Click here for a photo of what the sweatshirt will look like. Sam Srednicki (second from the left), has on the exact sweatshirt you'll be ordering.
    • Click here for an order form.
    • Sweatshirts are $18.50 without embroidery
    • Sweatshirts are $22.50 with the runner's name embroidered on the sleeve.

November 16th, 2006

  • I've posted a batch of photos from our second home meet on the web. Thank you Mrs. Ingham! Check them out here.
  • I've put a box in the office for returning sweatshirts and sweatpants. Thank you for returning them clean.
  • If you would like to order a "to keep" sweatshirt, e-mail me.
  • We'll see everyone at the banquet Tuesday November 28th. I hope you've returned your "RSVP" slip to Mrs. Ingham.

November 10, 2006

  • The All Stonington Meet results posted.
  • A box will be set up in the office on Monday, November 13th for runners to return their sweatshirts and pants. Next year's Cross Country runners will use these, so thank you for turning them in. Remember to give them a washing and drying.
  • There has been a good response for ordering "to keep" sweatshirts. I have had 7, maybe 8 families respond. To order them, I need a minimum of a dozen. The logo would be the style on the new t-shirts and sweatshirts. The size would be the size of the new sweatshirts (adult small). The cost would be about $18.50 each with a $4.00 add'l fee for the runner's name embroidered on the sleeve. If you're interested, e-mail me.
  • Get those Sports Banquet slips returned to school. Mrs. Ingham needs a headcount.
  • Lost and Found: An Old Navy light pink velour zipped sweatshirt (for a child) was left behind at the All-Stonington Meet (11/9) with our pile of backpacks/musical instruments. Do you recognize it? E-mail me and I'll leave it in the school office with your name on it.
  • There is a great article about yesterday's meet (with lots of photos) in tonight's Westerly Sun. The Westerly Sun now requires users to logon, so it might be easier to just pick up a paper copy.
  • More to come....

November 9th, 2006

  • I've typed up a copy of the Sports Banquet slip. Find it here.
  • Parents have asked me about local road races. The best list for upcoming road races is from SNERRO. Find it here. Be aware that sometimes a participant must be a minimum age to participant.

November 2, 2006

  • What a great day for a race! We wedged our race between a rainy morning before and a rainy evening after!
  • Thank you everyone! Yesterday's meet went smoothly and safely. Thank you to everyone who came to help! Parents and Mystic Aquarium, you are wonderful!
  • Because of daylight savings, we decided to run both the boys and the girls together (like a community race), so that everyone would be off the street before sunset. It went well.
  • Results will be posted shortly.
  • Our next meet is Saturday, November 4. Teams are assembling at 9:40 and the races begin at 10:00. There is NO BUS.
  • The banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, November 28th at 6:00 pm. Informational slips were distributed to all team members before yesterday's meet. Questions? Issues? Contact Janis Ingham at 599-5696.
  • There has been some interest in having red sweatshirts made up that have the Pawcatuck Middle School Cross Country Logo printed on the front that the runners can keep. Names can be embroidered on the sleeve. The sweatshirts are about $18.50 each and embroidery is about $4.00 additional. If there is enought interest, I'll order another batch. E-mail me.

  • We'll see everyone on Wednesday, November 1, for our 2nd home meet. Please see either Coach Romano or McCarthy if you would like to help out. We could use your help on the street and at the finishline area.

  • The All-Stonington Meet is planned for Wednesday November 8th. The bus will take us to Stonington High Schoo.
  • The Sports Banquet has been set for late November - the 27th or the 28th. I'll let you know when I get a definite date and time. It is a wonderful night to celebrate our kids:)

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

  • Yesterday was another great day for a race. Results are posted to the right. Runners, you did a great job!
  • Thank you to the many volunteers that helped out yesterday. That includes parents, brothers and sisters, SHS cross country runners, Mystic Aquarium employees, John McNally, Tom McCoy, and Sue McVeigh. Thank you to the many family members who came out to cheer all the runners.
  • Our next meet is Monday October 30th at Pine Point. The bus will be outside PMS at 3:00 and the meet will start around 3:30. Runners, remember to bring something warm to wear. Day light savings is this weekend, so it will be getting darker and colder more quickly. Bring a water bottle and remind your parents to come and cheer!
  • Speaking of sweatshirts, we have a limited supply of sweatshirts and if you have lost yours, I will have to replace it. The cost is about $18.50 per sweatshirt. These sweatshirts are used by our cross country runners each year. The same goes for the sweatpants.
  • Next Wednesday November 1, is another home meet. I need help. Please consider helping out - on key points in the road and at the finishline. See Coach Romano or McCarthy. Thank you!

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

  • Wasn't it a beautiful day for a race at Bluff Point? I've posted race results on the right.
  • If you're available on Wednesday afternoon (10/25), please consider helping us out during our first home meet. We need help keeping the kids safe as they run our home course.

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

  • Volunteers Needed for our first home meet, next Wednesday, October 25th. I need folks to work the finishline area and folks to stand in the road so cars will be will be aware of the many children we will have in the road during the meet. Find Tracy or Sue early in the meet (~3:00 pm), if you would like to help. We really appreciate it!
  • Our next meet is next Monday at Bluff Point.

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

  • Runners, we're so proud of you! You ran well; some of you smiled along the way and some of you 'dug deep'. You all did very well! ALL OF YOU! Congratulations! I've posted results to the right.
  • Parents, THANK YOU for getting all that paperwork into me in a timely manner:)
  • Sue, Rhandi and families, thank you for the yummy snacks you've organized and brought to the meets so that our hungry runners had something light to nosh on after their race.
  • Next week, we have two practices scheduled (10/16 and 10/18). Remember to come with your sneakers, a bottle of water labeled with your name, shorts and a t-shirt.
  • Runners, if you're planning to take the late bus after practices, remember that you MUST be out in front of the school no later than 3:55. The bus leaves prompty at 4:10, whether you're out there or not.
  • Parents, we need lots of help for our two home meets - Wednesday 10/25 and Wednesday 11/1. Part of our home course is on the road and we need parents to be on the road keeping the kids on course, cheering them on, and making drivers aware that there are kids in the road.

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

  • Runners - you did a great job! See the results I've posted to the right.

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

  • Runners, you were fabulous! Meet results (with Cutler and Clarke Lane) are posted to the right.
  • For information regarding the Wickham Park XC Meet scheduled for Saturday October 7th, click here. This race is for 7th and 8th graders only. You would have gotten a phone call from one of the coaches if you were going. This is for the experience only and is optional for those runners that received a phone call. The high school bus will be leaving from Stonington High School promptly at 7:30 on Saturday October 7th. If your parents plan to attend and then leave with you, Coach McNally asks that you stay and watch the freshman race (scheduled for 10:00 and 10:25). Remember to sign out with Coach McCarthy. AND most importantly have fun running this 3k course:)
  • Remember to run on your own over the weekend, because Monday is a holiday.
  • Our next meet is Wednesday, October 11th. The bus will be outside PMS at 3:00 pm to take us to Wheeler in North Stonington. Remember your sneakers, a water bottle, black shorts, red XC shirt, black sweatpants and your hooded red sweatshirt.
  • Remember, we only have a bus to take TO the meet. There is no transportation back to PMS. Make arrangements to get home.

Monday, October 2, 2006

  • I have sent home a 'Field Trip Permission Form". It MUST be filled in and returned Wednesday, October 4th. You can find a copy here. Print it out. Fill in the second line where it says..."has my permission to attend the school field trip to X-country meets on see attached schedule. " I absolutely apologize for the tardiness of this form. I need it filled in so that the students can board the bus to the meets. This one form is good for the entire season.
  • You can find a copy of the meet schedule above.
  • All paperwork must be in order for the runners to get on the bus at 3:00 at PMS on Thursday October 5th. This includes the blue emergency card, the field trip permission slip and the rules sheet. There are still students that have not turned everything into me.
  • T-shirts arrived and I distributed them today. I have a couple more to give out and I have a couple extra if you still want to order one. Sizes are limited. They are $6.00 each (cash only).
  • Sweatshirts arrived and I will be distributing them on Wednesday October 4th for those runners that did not receive one at the beginning of the season. These MUST be returned (washed) at the end of the season for use during the cross country season of 2007:)
  • Our first regular meet is this Thursday, October 5th at Cutler Middle School (in Groton). Runners should wear black shorts, red team t-shirt, black sweatpants (if they have them) and red hooded team sweatshirt. Please remember a light snack for after the race and a water bottle with your name on it. Parents, you are welcome to attend the meet and can find directions to the meet here. Things should get underway between (3:15-3:30).
  • PARENTS: You must pick up your child at the conclusion of the Cutler Meet. There is no bus back to PMS. Runners need to sign out with either Coach Romano or Coach McCarthy before leaving the meet.
  • Thank you to all the parents that came out today for our first time trial. We wanted to determine a 10-member team for our meet at Wickham Park planned for this Saturday, October 7th. For this meet, only 7th and 8th graders can participate. The results are listed on the right. Over the next couple days Sue McCarthy will be calling to see who would like to attend the Wickham Park meet. We can only take 10 runners.
  • We are very fortunate to be able to run the Wickham Park course (located in Manchester, CT). This is the same course that is used by high schoolers through out the state when Championship Races are held. Coach John McNally, SHS cross country coach extended an invitation for PMS and MMS and we will run as 'Stonington Middle Schools'. Our race, 3k (or 1.86 miles), is scheduled for 9:30 am. We will be boarding the high school bus between 7:00 and 7:15 am on Saturday October 7th from the Stonington High School parking lot and we will be riding to Wickham with the MMS and SHS cross country teams.
